The journal Transactions of KarRC RAS released its fifth issue this year in the Experimental Biology Series

This year’s issue No. 5 of the journal Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre RAS, Experimental Biology Series, is out of press. This issue includes review articles on the causes of photodamage to plant leaves under abnormal light–dark cycles, as well as on the role of microRNAs in regulating flowering timing in plants. The feature in the Dates and Anniversaries section is devoted to the 95th anniversary of birth of Vyacheslav Berestov, the first head of the Laboratory of Fur Animal Physiology at the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS.

Olga Bakhmet, KarRC RAS CEO, shared information from the General Assembly of Fellows of the Russian Academy of Sciences she attended

Corresponding Fellow of the Russian Academy of Sciences and KarRC RAS CEO Olga Bakhmet took part in the General Assembly of Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The General Assembly is a pivotal event in the life of the academic community, where progress is reviewed and the strategy for the development of science in Russia is determined. Traditionally, the annual reporting session is held in spring, while a scientific session takes place in autumn or winter.

A delegation from the Geographical Society of China visited the Karelian Research Centre RAS. The visit included getting familiar with the KarRC RAS, a tour of the Educational Centre “Museum of Applied Environmental Research", and a roundtable session for Karelian and Chinese scientists.

Issue #4 of the journal Transactions of KarRC RAS, dealing with limnology and oceanology, is out of press

This year’s fourth issue of the journal Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre RAS, Limnology and Oceanology Series, has been released. This issue features articles by Russian scientists reporting the results of research on lakes in Karelia, Arkhangelsk and Murmansk Regions, the White Sea, and the Arctic Ocean, as well as materials dedicated to the renowned scientist, geographer, and statistician Konstantin Arsenyev, and details on the Winter Limnology School and Workshop – 2026.

Ornithologists invite volunteers to join bird population monitoring

Participants in bird population monitoring in Karelia are entering the high season. The last ten days of May through early June is the nesting period for birds, during which annual observations must be carried out. Anyone is welcome to join. To participate, you need to choose a route about two km long, walk it twice or thrice, recording all birds you see or hear on the way. There are paper or electronic keys to species to help with identification.
